Ninth Grade Center

This grant will fund several Makerspaces in the Ninth Grade Center library. Makerspaces are stations where students can participate in a variety of creative activities that incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Within each one of the stations, students will learn engineering skills with erector sets and robotics, website coding, and 3D printing for engineering and artistic design.a

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous, relevant, and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools across the U.S. These funds will purchase four VEX robotics design kits to be used in the elementary PLTW launch classroom. Through an engaging, hands-on curriculum, PLTW encourages the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creative and innovative reasoning, and a love of learning.

Main Street Elementary and Hawk Point Elementary

This grant was designed to increase the reading skills of students to prevent illiteracy, the inability to read, and more importantly aliteracy, having the ability but choosing not to read. This project provides hands-on activities to build skills as well as books of high-interest to help students apply skills and enjoy reading. These funds will purchase an array of books and help cultivate a comfortable atmosphere for students. 

Troy Buchanan High School
Amount: $2,500
The purpose of this grant it so exposes to AgEd students the numerous Agriculture career opportunities – specifically, near Troy – in the St. Louis metro area. The funds will be used to emphasize the importance of the agricultural industry and its related fields, develop leadership in personal leadership and personal development skill in AgEd students, and teach valuable and practical life skills to AgEd students and continue to impact the ever-changing R-III community.

Troy Buchanan High School
Amount: $825
This grant will enrich the academic performance for student’s involved in Quiz Bowl and math teams. These funds will purchase extra buzzer systems for practice and conference needs. Having these buzzers will allow more students to participate in these extracurricular activities.

This grant is expanding the R.K. Stratman funds in the TBHS art department. These funds will purchase the printer required for printing transparencies to make the screens for screen printing and will allow the first screen printing class to be offered during the 2016-2017 school year.

This grant will fund the purchase of skeletal specimens from a source that cast from actual human remains to allow students exposure to more accurate skull and pelvic remains for identification. These funds will also purchase fingerprint kits used by CSI in the field and supply the necessary equipment for students to collect evidence. These enrichments will enhance their skills allowing them to be more college or career ready.

Troy Buchanan High School
Amount: $2,500
These funds will establish a math education week, spring of 2017. The math department will host presenters from the region and beyond through digital connections who would expose students to problem-solving situations in their field, set up a demonstration to increase real-world problem solving, and host a math competition sponsored through Mathleague.org.

Troy Middle School
Amount: $2,500
Providing a place for a student to showcase their talent, this grant will purchase a portable performance area that will increase the excitement of performing and a greater appreciation for theatre performance.

This grant will provide any student with a needed sensory tool designed to provide sensory input that will help them to be calm, focused, and ready to learn. To coincide with the purchasing of these sensory items all staff will be trained on why, how, and when to use and maintain the sensory-based equipment by a staffed occupational therapist or a staffed occupational therapist assistant.

This grant will fund Project Lead The Way (PLTW) gateway to technology class by purchasing specific technology components that are compatible with the MIT App Inventor program. In this class, students will create a computer app and have the opportunity to sell it upon completion.

It is well documented that students that fail to read adequately by the end of the 1st grade have a 90% probability of remaining poor readers by the 4th grade. 70% of those readers will continue struggling throughout high school. This grant helped fund a Leveled Literacy Intervention program that helps children read at an age-appropriate level.

Troy Middle School
Amount: $1,994.95
A documentation station is an area of the classroom set aside for students to photograph and upload their artwork onto an online portfolio so that they can keep a record of all of their artwork from sixth through twelfth grade. This grant will fund digital cameras and cases, tripods, and display boards.

The use of technology in the classroom is becoming more and more prevalent in the digital age. This grant will enable students to utilize The Modern Languages iPad Project so that they can be exposed to languages from native speakers and use state-of-the-art applications such as Duolingo. This program allows students to receive personal feedback on their progress, watch and post YouTube videos on Canvas, create web pages, have conversations in the target language with their classmates via discussion boards on Canvas or with native speakers from classrooms around the world, and Skype with students in other countries.

This grant will purchase six logographer accessory kits that unlock the full video recording potential of an iPad, which supports the new Troy Middle School Broadcasting program. This will enable students to have access to all of the necessary tools to create a professional newscast.

Troy Middle School and Troy South Middle School

This grant will expand intramural activities in both middle schools to include tennis. These funds will also help to provide medals to all students participating in soccer, softball, flag football, basketball, volleyball, and archery.

The Classroom Engagement and Collaboration Initiative will create a collaborative learning environment to foster creative thinking and promote classroom engagement for all students. This grant will fund stability balls and activity tables in all sixth-grade science classrooms, including special education.

Allowing students more time to tinker and create, Troy South Middle School library will host a Makerspace program before school and during school for students to work with Erector sets, Lego sets, crafts and practicing with coding. With this award, students will be able to experience project-based opportunities amongst all grade levels.

As the Lincoln County R-III school district implements the Project Lead The Way pre-engineering curriculum throughout middle and high school, it is important that students have the proper tools available. This 3D printer is a technological tool that our teachers need in order to properly prepare and engage students to take an interest in engineering as a career choice. With this printer, students are able to use 3D design software to create 3D prototypes of their computer-generated models.

This project will fill a Boone fourth grade classroom with 272 nonfiction books for the students. Research indicates that reading non-fiction promotes students success and boosts their vocabulary. Nonfiction books help students to be able to discuss complex issues when seeking jobs in the real world.

William Cappel Elementary

Storia School Edition provides a digital reading solution to the inadequate libraries, which currently plague our classrooms. LCR3EF funded this eReading experience which provides every student unlimited access (at school and at home) to 2,100 eBooks including literary classics and modern titles from bestselling authors, as well as nonfiction and informational texts to support the Missouri Learning Standards.

William Cappel Elementary

LCR3EF funded this grant for Project Lead The Way (PLTW) launch. This project will be implemented as a before/after school program designed to teach students to be collaborative problem solvers and build up on their critical thinking skills. By bringing this program to the elementary level, we will peak the interest of our students at a younger age and allow them to explore the connections between science, math, engineering and technology.

The goal of the Bridge of Books project is to help build a bridge between school and home by putting books in the hands of Main Street Elementary students and their families as well as enhance the reading experience by incorporating activities to go along with the book that involve Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

This grant will be used to improve Reader’s Workshop in a first grade, Main Street Elementary classroom. The award will be used to purchase additional iPads and books for the classroom library to enhance reading instruction. Combining leveled readers and a technology work station students will be encourage to read at their own level and enjoy their reading skills.

Cuivre Park Elementary
Amount: $1,262.35
This award will provide opportunities for the most significantly cognitively impaired students to access the community and transfer skills taught in the classroom into the “real world.” Teachers are able to provide instruction in communication, math, language arts, and social skills, but they cannot help students apply any of these skills in the community in real life situations. The ability to transfer these skills will have a huge impact on their post-secondary transition to adulthood.

Due to the fact that Lincoln County R-III Parents as Teachers (PAT) does not receive any outside funding, LCR3EF is helping to fund PAT Group Connections. These are monthly group meetings that focus on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being.

The Full STEAM ahead project will provide Pre-K teachers with the supplies, equipment, and professional development to begin a program that teaches Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and the addition of Art to Pre-K students. This grant will fund STEM learning kits for classrooms, subscription for weekly non-fiction readers, online resource supplements, early childhood STEM conference for grant co-applicants, and STEM professional development workshop for faculty.
